The Student Conference

Welcome to the online home of The Student Conference!

On the 1st of December Students as Partners hosted the 2nd annual Student Conference. Despite a blizzard raging outside the event was attended by over 100 students from all 4 faculties, ranging from first years to post graduate. Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell opened proceedings with the Key-note address, in which she touched on the variety of opportunities offered to all students at the University of Manchester. The conference offered students their choice of three sessions out of ten, which included, 'Academic Writing: Process and Practice', and 'Presentation Karaoke'. 'Academic Writing: Process and Practice' was delivered by Dr. John Morley, and focused on exploring the process of academic writing along with examining commonly recognised stylistic characteristics of academic writing. Upon reflection one student said, ' "I really learnt from the sessions and developed useful skills"'.

There was a fair which dominated the ground floor of University Place and was designed to support the 3 strands of the conference; Engaging in opportunities, Utilising services and Developing skills as independent learners. The market stalls were a great representation of the services and opportunities, which are provided throughout the university.

The Student Conference was a tremendous success, and planning has already begun for the following year.
